The Native American Bar Association of Washington, D.C. Celebrates Mary Smith’s Induction as President of the American Bar Association

Washington, D.C., August 14, 2023 – The Native American Bar Association of Washington, D.C. (NABA-DC) celebrates and congratulates Mary Smith (Cherokee Nation) on her recent induction as President of the American Bar Association (ABA). Smith is the first Native American woman to hold this position. 

 

NABA-DC’s mission is to promote the educational and professional advancement of Native American attorneys and Indian Country. Smith has dedicated her professional career to both private practice and public service in leadership positions at the Indian Health Service, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the White House. Her voluntary service includes a former appointment as President of the National Native American Bar Association. NABA-DC applauds her continued leadership and supports her efforts at the ABA to further the legal profession.
