NABA-DC will hold its 2018 annual meeting and governing board elections on January 12, 2018 at 6:30pm. The meeting will be held at Hobbs, Straus, Dean & Walker, located at 2120 L St NW #700.
Governing Board Elections: To be eligible to hold a position on the governing board, a person must be a NABA-DC member in good standing (meaning dues have been paid) and be nominated for the position at the annual meeting. Members may self-nominate.
The positions open for election are: President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, Bar Liaison, and Members-at-Large. Members-at-Large oversee the Intern lunch, Mentorship, Social, and Community Outreach Committees. The number of Members-at-Large is determined at the annual meeting. For more information regarding the responsibilities of these positions, you can review NABA-DC’s Bylaws here.
Voting: In order to vote in the governing board election, a person must be a member in good standing. Members may vote by proxy. A member wishing to vote by proxy must give the Secretary written notice at least 24 hours before the election by sending an email to: nabadc_community@nabadc.com. The notice shall state good cause for the member’s absence and the name of the person to whom the proxy is given.
Membership: If you have not yet renewed your NABA-DC membership for 2018, it can be done online at: https://nabadc.com/how-to-join/. Additionally, dues can be paid at the annual meeting.

What: Group visit to the imagiNATIONS Activity Center and “Winter Blast: A Family Weekend of Native Games”

NABA-DC has reserved a group visit to the imagiNATIONS Activity Center from 1:30pm to 2pm. Facilitators will be teaching the older kids string games, and younger kids can play in the area. Kids wanting to participate in string games will need a ticket. Tickets are limited, so please let us know ASAP if you no longer plan to use your ticket.
NMAI is also holding an event entitled “Winter Blast: A Family Weekend of Native Games” in the main area of the museum from 10am until 5:30pm. After our group visit to the imagiNATIONS Activity Center, we can check this event out, too.
Last, NMAI’s new exhibit entitled “Americans” is set to open on January 18th. The exhibit highlights the ways in which American Indians have been part of the nation’s identity since before the country began.

It’s almost time for the NABA-DC Annual Awards and Holiday Party! This year we will be hosting an in-person event and we are looking forward to celebrating with all of you!
There is no cost to attend if you are a register member in good standing. Dues are $60.00 for Attorney Members and $30.00. for Non-Attorney Members. Student Members are free to join. You do not have to be a licensed attorney to join NABA-DC. Registration is https://nabadc.com/how-to-join/
Along with honoring this year’s Award nominees and winners, NABA-DC will also hold a silent auction to raise funds for the Marine Toys for Tots Native American Program. This holiday season, many families across Indian Country are struggling financially. A portion of the funds raised will also benefit NABA-DC’s 2022 annual programming. Each year, NABA-DC hosts programs and events that focus on strengthening our community and providing education on issues impacting Indian Country.
The office of Fish & Richardson P.C. is graciously hosting the 2022 NABA-DC Holiday Party.
Call for Sponsors
NABA-DC is seeking monetary sponsors for this year’s holiday party. This year the suggested contributions are Eagle ($2,500+) Platinum ($1,000-$2,499), Gold ($500+), Silver ($100+) and Turquoise (0-$100). We hope that you will consider sponsoring the event at any level or amount. The funds raised from sponsors will be donated to the planning of the Holiday Party, Toys for Tots Native American Program, and NABA-DC’s annual programming. Call for Award Nominations
Is there someone in the DC Indian law and policy community that you think deserves recognition for his or her work this year? If so, nominate them for a NABA-DC award! The NABA-DC Board will determine winners and announce them at the Holiday Party. Awards will be given in the following categories:

Call for Donations for the Silent Auction
We are asking for donation items from our NABA-DC membership. We are accepting many types of items including artwork, pottery, home décor, jewelry, gift baskets, gift certificates, and other new gift type items. Please join NABA-DC on May 3, 2023 from 12-1pm ET for a case debrief on Lac Du Flambeau v. Coughlin. Julius Chen from Akin Gump, who is part of the Tribe’s legal team and participated in drafting the brief for the Tribe, will be speaking and Morgan Saunders from NARF will be moderating.
