MEMBERS ONLY EVENT: ICWA Litigation Update Luncheon @ DENTONS
Oct 21 @ 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

NABA-DC will hold a luncheon on Friday, October 21, 2016 to discuss Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) litigation.  Speakers will address recent developments, particularly focusing on equal protection challenges to ICWA.  Lunch will be provided.

Speakers will include Sam Daughety, attorney at Dentons, and Kaitlyn Klass, attorney at Hobbs Straus Dean & Walker.  Time for questions, answers, and discussion will follow.

The luncheon is open to the first 25 NABA-DC members who RSVP.  You must be a current member to attend.  We will keep a waiting list if we go over the 25-member limit.  Out of courtesy, we ask that you provide at least 24 hours notice if you must cancel.

NABA-DC will be providing a BBQ-style main dish, water, plates, cups, napkins, and silverware.  We will also have games and blankets to sit on.  Please bring a dish or drink to share and anything else you think will make your picnic experience more comfortable.
If the weather is too hot or rainy, we will be moving our celebration indoors and will reach out with an updated location.

U.S. Supreme Court Swearing In

NABA-DC are excited to offer our members a group swearing in to the U.S. Supreme Court Bar on Tuesday October 10, 2017.

NABA-DC Kids Event at NMAI @ National Museum of the American Indian

What: Group visit to the imagiNATIONS Activity Center and “Winter Blast: A Family Weekend of Native Games”

NABA-DC has reserved a group visit to the imagiNATIONS Activity Center from 1:30pm to 2pm. Facilitators will be teaching the older kids string games, and younger kids can play in the area. Kids wanting to participate in string games will need a ticket. Tickets are limited, so please let us know ASAP if you no longer plan to use your ticket.

NMAI is also holding an event entitled “Winter Blast: A Family Weekend of Native Games” in the main area of the museum from 10am until 5:30pm. After our group visit to the imagiNATIONS Activity Center, we can check this event out, too.

Last, NMAI’s new exhibit entitled “Americans” is set to open on January 18th. The exhibit highlights the ways in which American Indians have been part of the nation’s identity since before the country began.
